Everest Computers Blog About Computers and Web Design

Do-Follow blogs are the right way to go, this is why Everest Computers Blog is a Do-Follow blog. “U comment, I follow” is a concept, which assumes the respect for a person, who found the time to read the blog’s entry and write a comment.

The trend, which I’ve recently noticed, is that many former DoFollow blogs ceased to be Do-Dollow. It’s either because owners got sick of all the spam they were getting as comments or they’ve decided to boost their website’s status by setting the “no-follow” attribute for the outer links the readers brought to the site. I don’t think it’s the right thing to do. I think if website’s Do-Follow participation has been announced, the website should stay like that and continue to pass the benefits of the Internet Do-Follow movement.

Unfortunately, some people write comments only to promote their own website or are being paid to promote other people’s websites. They are not interested in adding something useful to the article or engaging into the discussion with the article’s author or other blog readers. I don’t blame them for what they’re doing but I also won’t give in, that’s why I have strict rules on commenting on Everest Computers Blog.

I completely agree with Michael Martine, who wrote in his “New Comment Policy: No Keywords in Comments” blog entry that he simply got sick of all the keyword stuffing he was getting on his website.

“U comment, I follow” motto indeed implies that both the author and the reader respect each other in an intelligent exchange of opinions. I’m not against comments that criticize (but not in the offending way) and would always listen and learn. If a website visitor have something to add to the discussion, I always say - please do but don’t spam by posting stupid “thank you…I don’t know what to say…” sorts of comments, contribute to the article instead and always use your real name. In this case everyone will be happy.

I intend to keep Everest Computers Blog a DoFollow blog for a foreseeable future because I started to really enjoy writing articles here and I want to continue doing it. When writing down what I encounter in my life or my work, I begin to understand it deeper - and sometimes I also get very useful replies like in case of the article about images for website design and development on the Internet.

And the word of warning at the end: spamming is bad, don’t do any spamming on this website - I neutralise all the spam anyway. If a visitor finds something interesting and useful here, I’m very happy for him or her - this is what this website was set up for initially. Please engage in the discussion if you have something useful to say. If for some reason there’s nothing interesting here for you, thank you for visiting and I’m sure you’ll find what you’re looking for somewhere else.

Well, I believe in what you just wrote. But its normal to gain spam and promotional comment. Its internet right, its now your job to see what comment doesn’t really contribute to your topic. But talking wisely you have advertise your site to a do-follow blog –expect what you expect spam.

The funny thing is I just arrived to your blog while searching for blogs with a do-follow policy and found this as the latest article.

I do keep a list of such blogs and comment on them from time to time, in part to help with rankings - but never include keywords or post offtopic comments just for the sake of commenting. I do like getting something back for posting a useful comment :)

So I salute your intentions to keep the blog as do-follow.

One thing that I’d like to tell you… keep your eyes on pages that have internal PR. If I want to spam you, I simply look for the pages of this blog that has PR and put a comment on it:)

    Hello,

As someone that happens to use comments very heavy to promote money sites. I am amazed that so many spammers just have no clue how to utilize do follow blogs. They are some of the most highly cared for pieces of real estate online. It is often the value they bring to your internal link structure that many just do not see.

You have some of these comments here using keywords in the name.
Congratulations for keeping your do follow blog, moderating spam is not so dificult, you can ad the askimet plugin and the recaptcha system and that will kill 99% of the spam coming to your site.

    Hi,

I agree with you that peoples are doing spamming in do follow sites but one can write in comment policy that write comment “name - keyword” as what i seen in some industry gient’s blog.. Akimest is pretty gud tool for moderating spam comments.

  9. kampanye damai

How do you know it was a keyword or a name if it was written with other than english?

  10. web development Brisbane

You know what, the first thing I saw when I click on your site is your template. Looks neat. :) Sorry, but as a designer, I appreciate such beauty. And you have a nice post as well. Thanks for sharing.

@kampanye damai: kampanye damai is not your name, you’re clearly promoting something here, which is - sorry - against the rules. I live in London and I met people of many nationalities and I guess I can figure out a person’s name. The quick internet search is also helping.

@John: Thank you. I used WPThemeGen. I wrote about it in the article about simple theme generators - check it out.

I guess you need to moderate comments. Just check the option “Comment author must have a previously approved comment” and … problem solved.

  13. Answering Service

Yes, I agree with you “U comment, I follow”
But due to spammers you need to moderate comments.

maybe all blogs cannot avoid the spamming technology even the free blogs… but i am glad you made a decision to have do follow blogs. Most of the bloggers right now prefer to leave comments on do follow blogs since it worth it. :D

I don’t think that spamming is all that much of an issue as Akismet will catch the vast majority of spam.

What is an issue is people that leave inane, braindead comments in the hopes to get a backlink. Nothing like seeing “lol niec posting i have bokmarked u” in the queue!

  18. Altesino

Akismet has caught over 90% of the spam on my website. It’s great! I’m glad to hear you are keeping your blog dofollow.

You also do a great just setting comment expectations by posting your guidelines right above the comment area.

  19. Webmaster Forum

This is great, I really do feel all blogs should be do follow, it makes the reader want to post and join in comments which makes the site look busier. However people don’t want to loose page rank….

  20. Heart Rate Watches

what blogs are for if it is not a do follow?

  21. Charles

Do follow blogs are the way to go… It is just a pain to monitor the comments because so many spammers will try to put completely unrelated content on your website, just to get a back link… I mean, how hard is it to contribute your thoughts and insights. I have been in the graphic design and web design industry for nearly 10 years, and the spammers have always been around, they just move from one medium to another, when people get sick of them and give them the boot. Anyway thanks for keeping up the do follow tradition, you have my support.

    It is great post.

i’m very excited about what the new year has to offer! wishing you a happy new year & best of luck in ‘09!

Great site, but you do need to consider better spam protection than standard “sum of numbers”, it’s easily cracked by bots
